Guest Blogger: The Fat Guy…is in Moscow

October 7th, 2011 · No Comments · Guest Blogger, Travel Writing

The Fat Guy sat, surrounded by the bulky, neo-gothic, Stalinist splendour of the hotel. The marble floors, the decorated ceilings, the “gold cord” service‚Ķ everything to a scale just slightly too large to be comfortable.

Cosseted in his grandiose bubble, the Fat Guy peered out on the streets nine floors below.

People, huddled in their coats, were making their way to work. Cars jammed in the streets crawled slower than walking pace in the grey, damp gloom of the morning. The Fat Guy stared, part glazed with fatigue, part in awe at the vast expanse of the city sprawling beneath him.

He’d seen many cities before but there was something different, slightly disturbing, about this one. He couldn’t put his finger on why, but would spend the rest of the day thinking about it.

Another rainy day in Moscow.
